Vicky Kaushal's historical drama Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has witnessed a slowdown at the box office amid political unrest in Nagpur. Despite strong collections, the film’s earnings dipped during weekdays, with Tuesday’s collection at ₹2.5 crore, bringing its domestic total to ₹567.8 crore.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis linked the film to the unrest, stating that it had reignited emotions against Aurangzeb, urging people to maintain peace. Violence erupted in Nagpur on Monday after right-wing groups protested, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb in Khuldabad, following rumors of a holy book’s desecration. Law enforcement remains on high alert as tensions persist.
Chhaava saw a 61.11% surge in earnings on Friday, with ₹7.25 crore, followed by ₹7.9 crore on Saturday and ₹8 crore on Sunday. However, Monday saw a steep 66.88% drop to ₹2.65 crore, continuing its downward trend on Tuesday. The film recorded a Hindi occupancy rate of 10.42% and a Telugu occupancy of 12.77%.
