CM Rekha Gupta to private schools: 'No right to harass students'—Notices being issued today!

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta strongly addressed concerns regarding sudden and excessive fee hikes in certain private schools, asserting that the government will not tolerate any form of harassment towards students and their families. Speaking to the media on Tuesday following a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, she shared that many distressed parents had approached her with complaints about unjustified fee increases.

The chief minister emphasized that private schools do not have the authority to intimidate or pressure students and their guardians through unreasonable financial demands. She reiterated that any hike in school fees must comply with existing norms and regulatory frameworks laid down by the education department.

Gupta announced that official notices are being dispatched to schools that have been the subject of parental complaints. These schools will be asked to provide justification for the hikes and show adherence to the prescribed procedures. The CM made it clear that institutions found violating the rules will face strict consequences.

“There are proper rules and procedures to be followed for any fee revisions. Any institution flouting these norms and resorting to threats or harassment will not be spared,” she stated. Gupta reassured parents that the Delhi government is committed to protecting their interests and ensuring that private education remains fair and accountable.

Her statement comes amid growing public outrage over increasing education costs in the capital, particularly in private institutions, prompting renewed calls for regulatory reforms and greater transparency in school administration.
