Prime Minister Narendra Modi set off on June 15, 2025, for a strategic three‑nation diplomatic tour—first to Cyprus, then to Canada, and finally Croatia. His initial stop, Cyprus, marks the first Indian PM visit in over two decades. Talks with President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia and a business address in Limassol aim to deepen ties in trade, technology, security, and cultural exchange.
Next, on June 16–17, Modi attends the 51st G7 Summit at Kananaskis, Alberta, by invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney—his sixth consecutive G7 appearance. The invitation reflects a tentative thaw in India–Canada relations, strained since the 2020 Nijjar assassination dispute. While Hindu and Sikh diaspora groups protested, Carney defended the invite, emphasizing India’s role as the world’s fifth-largest economy and its importance in global supply chains, security, and energy discussions.
India and Canada also plan to resume law enforcement and intelligence cooperation, signaling cautious diplomatic normalization. Alongside G7 proceedings, Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings—including with U.S. President Donald Trump—on trade, technology (AI, quantum), and global security.
Finally, on June 18, Modi visits Croatia—a historic first by an Indian prime minister—to explore opportunities in EU‑India cooperation. The tour highlights India’s diplomatic assertiveness in global affairs.
