Nature has unleashed its force across northern India today. In Delhi, heavy afternoon and evening rain continues to hammer the city, which has already surpassed its average annual rainfall mid-monsoon season. Traffic snarls, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and forecasts of further thunderstorms underscore widespread disruption and immediate risk.
Over in Punjab, swollen rivers like Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi, intensified by upstream rains in Himachal and Jammu & Kashmir, triggered widespread flooding. Authorities have evacuated more than 7,600 people, especially from vulnerable riparian communities.
Uttarakhand faces a critical situation—witnessing up to 369% more rainfall than usual in just 24 hours. Rampant flooding and landslides have led to multiple fatalities, missing persons, and damaged infrastructure across districts like Bageshwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Dehradun. A red alert is active for the most heavily hit areas, with orange alerts in surrounding districts; rescue teams are actively deployed and relief operations ongoing.
