Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri abused on social media; IAS, IPS come out in support!

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri faced a barrage of online abuse after announcing India and Pakistan's ceasefire agreement on May 11, 2025. Trolls targeted Misri's personal X account, posting vulgar comments, even dragging his family into the fray, forcing him to lock his account.

In a show of solidarity, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Association and Indian Police Service (IPS) Association strongly condemned the personal attacks, calling them "unwarranted and intolerable." Prominent leaders, including Asaduddin Owaisi, Sachin Pilot, and Gaurav Gogoi, defended Misri, stating civil servants merely communicate decisions made by the political executive.

V. Srinivas, Secretary of DARPG, hailed Misri as one of India's most distinguished diplomats, lauding his "Nation First" ethos. The controversy reignites the debate on protecting bureaucrats from digital vitriol when executing sensitive national decisions. As tensions ease diplomatically, questions loom over the toxicity of public discourse in times of national crisis.
