In a bizarre incident in Hamidpur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, a groom abandoned his wedding over a delay in serving food. The groom, Mehtab, along with his relatives, expressed dissatisfaction with the late serving of rotis and left the bride waiting in her wedding attire. Despite efforts by the bride’s family to resolve the issue, the groom and his party departed, blaming the bride’s family for the situation.
The wedding, arranged seven months earlier, had begun with great enthusiasm on December 22. However, the celebrations turned sour when a member of the groom’s side raised objections over food service delays. That night, the groom disappeared and later reportedly married a relative. The incident left the bride’s family devastated. They reported the matter to the Industrial Nagar Police Station but alleged no action was initially taken. On December 24, they sought help from the Superintendent of Police (SP).
The bride’s family claimed financial losses of Rs 7 lakh, including Rs 1.5 lakh in dowry sent to the groom’s family. They requested the SP to register an FIR against five individuals from the groom’s side and initiate legal proceedings. The bride’s brother, Raju, criticized the local police for their inaction despite Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiatives to establish women’s help desks for quick grievance redressal. The SP assured the family of action, but they have yet to be contacted by the authorities.
