Is Your Dog Ready for the Heatwave?

As summer arrives, dogs are not just feeling the heat but are also at a higher risk of heatstroke. Keeping them cool and comfortable during the warmer months is crucial for their well-being.

1. Hydration is Key: Ensure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times. Place multiple water bowls around the house and garden, and add ice cubes to keep the water cold.

2. Walk During Cooler Times: Avoid walks during the midday heat. Instead, walk your dog in the early morning or evening when temperatures are lower. This will prevent paw pad burns and reduce the risk of overheating.

3. Provide Rest: In high temperatures, limit exercise. Dogs, especially older or flat-faced breeds, can struggle with heat. Allow them to rest and engage in calm activities like brain games or treat puzzles.

4. Cooling Pools and Mats: A paddling pool filled with cool water provides a refreshing way to cool down. Cooling mats and ice packs can also help your dog relax and stay cool.

5. Use Cooling Products: Cooling coats, collars, and toys can help maintain a comfortable temperature for your dog, ensuring they stay safe and happy throughout the summer.

These simple steps will help keep your furry friend safe during the hot months.
