Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam issued an open threat to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra over his comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a YouTube video.
In a post on X late Sunday night, Nirupam wrote in Hindi, "We will do Dhulai of Kunal Kamra tomorrow at 11 o'clock," suggesting possible action against him.
Following this, workers from the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) vandalised The Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where Kamra's show was filmed. They also damaged parts of The Unicontinental Mumbai, the building where the club is located. As the video clip of Kamra's remarks went viral, Sena supporters gathered at Khar Police Station, demanding legal action against him.
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske also slammed Kamra, calling him a "hired comedian" making comments for money. He claimed Kamra could not move freely in India as Shiv Sainiks would confront him.
Meanwhile, the MIDC police registered a zero FIR against Kamra based on a complaint by Shiv Sena (Shinde) MLA Murji Patel. The case falls under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to spreading false information, provoking unrest, and defamation.
Kamra's remarks about the Shiv Sena split and Eknath Shinde have sparked political tension, with Sena (Shinde faction) members demanding an apology and warning of more protests if he does not comply.
