A scene of chaos unfolded at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday night as a heavy rush of passengers at platforms 12 and 13 reminded many of the tragic Maha Kumbh stampede in February. Due to delays in the Shiv Ganga Express, Jammu Rajdhani, Lucknow Mail, and Magadh Express, passengers scrambled to reach their platforms, jumping barricades and breaking queues.
The confusion worsened as the Swatantrata Senani Express occupied a platform, further adding to the congestion. However, swift crowd control measures by Delhi Police and RPF helped prevent a potential stampede. No injuries were reported, but the incident highlighted the challenges of managing large crowds at railway stations.
This comes weeks after the February 15 Maha Kumbh tragedy, where 18 people lost their lives in a stampede caused by mismanaged train schedules. Authorities are now under pressure to improve railway crowd control to avoid similar disasters.
