Imran Khan, Pakistan's former Prime Minister, has been nominated (again) for the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, the same Imran Khan who is currently in jail.
The nomination comes from the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA) and Norway's Partiet Sentrum, praising him for his work in human rights and democracy.
This is Khan's second nomination, the first being in 2019 for his peace efforts in South Asia. The Nobel Peace Prize selection process is rigorous, taking eight months to review hundreds of nominees. Yet, despite being behind bars, Khan has secured a spot on the list.
At 72, he remains a powerful political figure. He founded Pakistan's main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and continues to influence the country's politics, even from prison.
Since August 2023, he has been serving a 14-year sentence for corruption, though he claims all charges are politically motivated. Three of his convictions have already been overturned or suspended.
His nomination sparks debate: Is this recognition of a true champion of democracy or a reminder of the political battles shaping Pakistan? Either way, Khan's influence is undeniable.
