At 70, Kerala’s Indira M is proving that adventure has no age limit. Once a biochemistry teacher who put her dreams on hold for family responsibilities, she is now living her childhood wish of exploring the world. Since her first solo trip to South Africa in 2015, Indira has travelled to over 35 countries, from Japan to Istanbul, creating unforgettable memories along the way.
For Indira, solo travel isn’t just about visiting new places - it’s about self-discovery, freedom, and forming bonds with strangers who often turn into lifelong friends. She believes travelling alone allows women to step away from routine and find confidence in their independence.
Her journey began unexpectedly when a friend invited her to share a room on a group trip. With her children’s encouragement, she took the plunge - and never looked back. Today, Indira urges every woman, especially mothers, to try solo travel at least once, calling it a powerful way to reclaim personal space and joy. With Greece and Egypt next on her list, her adventures are far from over.
