In a high-alert security response following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Indian authorities denied disembarkation to a Pakistani and two Syrian nationals aboard an Iraq-flagged cargo vessel at Karnataka's Karwar port. The ship, transporting bitumen from Iraq's Al Zubair, carried 15 Indian crew members alongside the three foreign nationals.
Due to heightened vigilance, authorities confiscated their mobile phones and restricted them to the vessel for two days during unloading. With India already banning Pakistani-flagged ships and revoking visas of Pakistani nationals, this was part of wider post-attack security measures.
A senior port official confirmed their repatriation after inspection protocols. Coastal surveillance has since been intensified, with sensitive shoreline areas under close watch, and standard port clearance rules strictly enforced for foreign crews.
The incident underscores India's zero tolerance posture towards potential threats following the Pahalgam tragedy.
