Launched in 2018–19, Samagra Shiksha merges Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, RMSA, and Teacher Education into a unified programme covering nursery through Class XII. It embraces education as a continuum aligned with SDG-4 and NEP 2020 and ensures implementation of the Right to Education Act. Operating through 2025-26 with a ₹2.94 lakh crore outlay, it supports over 1.16 million schools, 156 million students, and 5.7 million teachers across government and aided schools.
Key focus areas include improving foundational literacy and numeracy, empowering teachers through capacity-building, and integrating vocational education from Class IX. Smart classrooms, digital infrastructure, and libraries are being scaled, while transport provisions and inclusive measures textbooks, uniforms, aid for children with special needs, and scholarships are strengthening access and equity.
Regional innovations bring life to this mission: In Uttar Pradesh, IIT-Kanpur and MNNIT offer virtual STEM education and teacher training under the programme. In Delhi, over 800 government schools now offer vocational courses aligned with NEP priorities. Jharkhand has organized camps for assistive devices for disabled children, while Trichy in Tamil Nadu is reducing dropouts via free student transport.
