In a major development ahead of the much-anticipated England tour, the BCCI has appointed Shubman Gill as the new Test captain of India.
The five-match Test series, beginning June 20 at Headingley, Leeds, also marks the start of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle. Rishabh Pant, who made a strong comeback, will serve as the vice-captain.
The squad includes promising talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Sai Sudharsan. The remaining matches will be held at Birmingham, Lord's, Manchester, and The Oval.
The absence of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah from the leadership group raised eyebrows. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that Bumrah might not be available for all five Tests due to workload management.
"Even if he's fit for three or four Tests, he'll be an asset," Agarkar said. This series is expected to be a high-voltage clash as both teams aim to kick off the new WTC cycle on a strong note.
