A recent study conducted by the University of Jyvaskyla and published in the Annals of Medicine reveals that the effects of unhealthy habits in young adulthood begin to surface as early as age 36. Researchers tracked 370 individuals over 30 years, collecting data at various stages of life.
The study highlights that three major unhealthy habits - smoking, heavy alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity - can negatively impact both mental and physical health by the mid-30s. Smoking was closely linked to poor mental health, while a lack of exercise affected physical well-being. Excessive alcohol intake was found to damage both.
These unhealthy behaviors, if left unchecked, increase the risk of chronic diseases such as heart conditions and cancer later in life. Experts emphasize the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle early on to prevent long-term damage. The study sends a clear message: early lifestyle choices have lasting consequences on overall health.
