India and Kuwait will enhance collaboration in trade, technology, and security

India and Kuwait have agreed to strengthen their partnership in key areas such as trade, investment, technology, and security by establishing a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) at the foreign minister level. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, held a meeting to review bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of a memorandum of understanding to formalize the JCC. This commission will serve as a central mechanism to oversee and enhance cooperation across various sectors, including hydrocarbons, health, and consular affairs.

New joint working groups will be created under the JCC to focus on specific areas like education, agriculture, and culture. These groups will work alongside existing ones to ensure the continuous development of India-Kuwait relations. During the meeting, both ministers also discussed regional and global issues, emphasizing the importance of mutual communication and collaboration, especially regarding the Middle East.

Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti government for its support of the one million-strong Indian community in Kuwait, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with Minister Yahya and highlighted the historical ties between the two nations. Modi thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for safeguarding the welfare of Indian nationals and reiterated India’s commitment to deepening these longstanding ties for the benefit of both nations and the broader region.

The discussions underscored the strong bonds between India and Kuwait, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation in addressing shared challenges and advancing mutual interests in areas such as energy, food security, and people-to-people connections.
