The Indian government has confirmed that 295 more Indian nationals in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody could soon be deported. This follows the deportation of 388 Indians since January 2025.
Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar informed the Parliament that while the total number of undocumented Indian immigrants in the US remains unknown, authorities are verifying the nationality of those facing removal orders.
The government has strongly protested the treatment of deportees, particularly the use of shackles on individuals, including women. The deportation of over 100 Indians in handcuffs on a military aircraft in February sparked outrage in Parliament.
US ICE has defended its procedures, stating that restraint measures have been in place since 2012. With growing concerns over human rights violations, India continues to engage with US authorities on the treatment of deported nationals.
