In the bustling streets of West Delhi’s Mayapuri, 53-year-old Chartered Accountant Sanjay Dodrajka is quietly transforming lives. Through his initiative ‘Food With Dignity’, he serves over 250 freshly cooked meals daily to the needy-for just ₹10 per plate.
But this isn’t charity-it’s dignity in action. Sanjay believes that even ₹10 gives self-respect to those who can’t afford meals. Started after the loss of a dear friend, his NGO Hamari Udaan runs without grants, offices, or paid staff. The food is made by local women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), giving them income and independence.
The meals-nutritious combinations of rice and curry-are packed and served daily by a small team, including a 70-year-old volunteer. Despite each plate costing ₹23-24, the shortfall is covered by Sanjay and a few close friends.
No publicity. No ads. Just impact.
Alongside food, the NGO also organizes health camps, school drives, and safety workshops. This is grassroots change in its purest form-heartfelt, consistent, and community-led.
