In Moscow on August 21, 2025, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to deepen India–Russia trade and energy cooperation. They reaffirmed their longstanding strategic relationship, with Lavrov highlighting successes in hydrocarbon supply and suggesting joint energy ventures in Russia’s Far East and Arctic regions.
Jaishankar underscored the importance of addressing non-tariff barriers and regulatory hurdles, calling for streamlined mechanisms to bolster bilateral trade especially in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and textiles to correct the current imbalance and expand Indian exports to Russia.
Both sides expressed a strong commitment to advancing comprehensive economic ties, maintaining energy supplies despite external pressure, and exploring future strategic collaboration. Jaishankar's remarks at the 26th Session of the India–Russia Intergovernmental Commission emphasized the urgent need to rebalance trade and fortify economic cooperation.
This diplomatic engagement not only bolsters commercial and energy collaboration but also underscores the resilience and depth of the India–Russia strategic partnership, even amid shifting global dynamics.
