Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Delhi Police Commissioner, effective immediately. He steps into the role following the attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta an incident that exposed gaps in the city’s protection mechanisms.
Golcha succeeds SBK Singh, who was handling the position in an additional capacity from August 1 after the retirement of Sanjay Arora. Singh’s brief tenure ended amid heightened scrutiny of the police force’s readiness.Known for his strategic acumen, Golcha has held key positions including DG (Prisons), Special CP (Law & Order), and head of Intelligence during the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots roles that underscore his administrative strength.
Described by officials as a “hard taskmaster,” his appointment signals a shift toward firm, disciplined leadership aimed at restoring public confidence and strengthening security protocols across the capital. As he assumes office at this critical juncture, all eyes are on how Golcha will recalibrate Delhi Police’s operational resilience and strategic oversight in the days ahead.
