In a small village called Baktawng in Mizoram, India, lived Ziona Chana - the man who headed the world’s largest family. Ziona was the leader of a Christian sect called "Chana Pawl" that encourages polygamy. He had 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law, and 33 grandchildren, making up a family of 180+ members all living under one roof.
Their home, a four-storey pink building called “Chhuan Thar Run”, became a tourist attraction in Mizoram. With over 100 rooms, the house was designed to accommodate the massive family. The wives shared a dormitory, while Ziona had a private bedroom. The family followed a well-planned routine – from cooking to farming to managing household chores – with military-style discipline.
Ziona passed away in 2021 at the age of 76, but his legacy continues. His large family still follows the values he upheld, living in harmony and self-sufficiency. Their unique story has amazed people across the globe, putting Mizoram on the map for a one-of-a-kind reason.
