Indian cricketers have always been known for their aggressive batting, and several have set remarkable records in Test cricket by scoring quick fifties. These fast fifties often come at crucial moments when the run rate needs acceleration, showcasing the players' ability to step up under pressure.
The fastest fifty by an Indian batsman is held by Rishabh Pant, who scored 50 runs off just 28 balls during a match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru in March 2022. This explosive knock helped India declare at 303/9, and they went on to win by 238 runs. Pant also holds the second spot, achieving a fifty in 29 balls against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the SCG.
Kapil Dev, the legendary all-rounder, comes next with a rapid 50 off 30 balls against Pakistan in Karachi in December 1982. Batting lower down the order, Dev's quickfire innings helped India in a challenging situation, though they lost the match by an innings and 86 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shardul Thakur are tied at 31 balls for their fastest fifties. Jaiswal's 31-ball half-century came in a rain-affected match, while Thakur's quick knocks in both innings of India’s match against England in 2021 helped India secure a 157-run victory.
Virender Sehwag, one of the most aggressive openers in cricket history, made his mark with a 50 off 32 balls against England in Chennai in 2008, playing a pivotal role in India's historic Test win.
