A massive explosion rocked an ordnance factory in Maharashtra's Bhandara district near Nagpur this morning, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The incident occurred around 10:30 am in the factory's LTP (Loading, Testing, and Packing) section at Jawahar Nagar. District Collector Sanjay Kolte confirmed that the blast caused the roof to collapse, trapping 14 workers beneath the debris.
Firefighters and medical teams rushed to the scene to manage the crisis. Using an excavator, rescue teams managed to save three workers alive while tragically recovering one deceased worker. The injured were immediately provided medical attention, and efforts to locate the remaining trapped workers are ongoing.
The intensity of the blast was so severe that its sound was heard 5 kilometers away. A plume of thick smoke billowing from the factory was captured in videos from nearby areas, highlighting the scale of the disaster.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the fatality and said that five workers had been rescued so far. He assured that top officials and rescue teams from Nagpur were on-site to aid the operation, with additional medical assistance on standby.
“Unfortunately, one worker has died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to him. We share the grief of his family. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured,” said Fadnavis in a statement.
The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, and authorities are investigating the incident to prevent such tragedies in the future.
