In 2024, the Delhi Metro network became a hub of surprising finds, with commuters leaving behind a staggering collection of valuables, ranging from cash to electronic gadgets. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), tasked with providing security across the metro, handled the recovery and restoration of these lost items to their rightful owners.
Among the most attention-grabbing findings were cash amounting to ₹40.74 lakh, 89 laptops, 193 mobiles, and silver jewellery spread over numerous items - 13 pairs of anklets, among many rings and bangles. Some misplaced valuables included foreign currencies like US dollars, Saudi Riyals, and Thai Baht that summed up to 24,550. The CISF managed to retrieve them and restored all such items after authenticating the claims of the owners.
The security agency's work did not stop at recovering lost items. CISF's role in ensuring safety across the Delhi Metro network also saw a great focus on preventing crime and assisting those in need.
In the last year, CISF intervened in 59 suicide attempts, unfortunately recording 23 fatalities. However, three individuals were saved, and 33 others were injured. Additional safety personnel detected 75 rounds of live ammunition along with seven fire arms during their routine security drills.
The CISF also expressed its commitment toward public welfare and helped 262 children traveling alone and rescued distressed 671 women. All the above were as a result of the vigil of the force about the safety of the passengers for the metro railways.
