Imagine leaving work every day knowing you're safe - that's the dream World Day for Safety and Health at Work fights for. Celebrated every April 28, this day, launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003, pushes for safer, healthier workplaces worldwide.
The need couldn’t be more urgent. Every year, around 2.78 million workers lose their lives due to work-related accidents and diseases, according to the UN Global Compact. These numbers are a loud wake-up call for businesses, governments, and employees alike.
In 2025, the theme is a game-changer: “Revolutionising health and safety: The role of AI and digitalisation at work.” Think automation, smart safety systems, virtual reality training, and AI-driven risk management - technology is redefining how we protect workers.
The ILO will host a major event in Geneva to spotlight how digital tools can create safer workplaces and stronger occupational health systems globally.
Closer to home, India is stepping up with the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. Backed by regulatory bodies like DGFASLI, DGMS, and ESIC, this framework is modernising how worker safety is handled across sectors.
This April 28, it’s not just a day of remembrance - it's a call to embrace innovation and prioritize safety like never before. Is your workplace ready to evolve?
