Hardik Pandya will miss Mumbai Indians' opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 due to a one-match ban for a slow over-rate penalty imposed during the previous season.
This suspension follows his third offense in IPL 2024, which occurred during MI's final league game against Lucknow Super Giants. In addition to the ban, Pandya was fined ₹30 lakh for the violation.
Pandya expressed surprise at the ban, stating he was unaware of the full consequences at the time. He acknowledged the situation was beyond his control and expressed regret, although he understood it was part of the rules.
With Pandya sidelined, Suryakumar Yadav will step in as the captain of Mumbai Indians. Pandya endorsed Yadav's leadership, calling him the best choice in his absence.
Despite Pandya's absence, Mumbai Indians are well-prepared for the season and aim for a strong start, with a blend of experience and new talent. While Pandya's absence is significant, MI hopes to secure victory under Suryakumar's leadership in the high-stakes clash against CSK.
