Raaj Kumar, one of Bollywood's legendary actors, had a fascinating journey before he became a film star. Originally named Kulbhushan Pandit, he worked as a sub-inspector at the Mahim Police Station in Mumbai during the early 1950s. Despite having a stable career in law enforcement, Raaj Kumar dreamed of pursuing a more creative path.
In 1952, he made the bold decision to leave his police job and venture into Hindi cinema. Though his debut film Rangeeli did not make a significant impact, he remained determined.
Over time, his unique dialogue delivery and distinct style began to attract attention. It was in 1957 that he started to gain recognition with his role in Nausherwan-e-Adil, and his small yet memorable appearance in Mother India further solidified his place in the industry.
Raaj Kumar was known for his regal presence and signature dialogue delivery, particularly his iconic use of the word "Jaani." He starred in several noteworthy films like Waqt, Hamraaz, and Pakeezah. A quirky aspect of his style was his consistent choice of white shoes in every scene, which became a trademark of his persona.
Raaj Kumar's transformation from a disciplined police officer to a celebrated actor highlights his courage to follow his dreams and leave behind a conventional career. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of actors and film lovers.
