Many people believe that applying hair oil is the best way to get rid of a dry, flaky scalp. But when it comes to dandruff, oiling can actually make things worse! Dandruff is not just caused by dryness it is often due to a fungus called Malassezia.
This fungus feeds on the natural oils in your scalp, and adding more oil only helps it grow. Instead of solving the problem, oiling can increase flaking, itching, and irritation.
When you apply oil to a dandruff-prone scalp, you create the perfect environment for fungus to multiply. The oil traps dirt, sweat, and dead skin cells, leading to clogged pores and even more flakes.
It also makes the scalp greasy, which attracts bacteria and increases discomfort. While oil might provide temporary relief by moisturizing the scalp, in the long run, it only worsens the problem.
Instead of oiling, it's better to use an anti-dandruff shampoo with ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or salicylic acid. These help fight the fungus and keep your scalp clean. Washing your hair regularly, maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding excessive hair products can also prevent dandruff.
So, if you've been applying oil to your scalp, hoping it will cure dandruff, it’s time to stop! Let your scalp breathe and use the right treatments to keep it healthy and flake-free.
