Tensions have risen between the Centre and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the inclusion of TMC MP Yusuf Pathan in the delegation for "Operation Sindoor", a multi-nation diplomatic mission to combat global terrorism.
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Centre never formally requested the "mother party" to nominate representatives. She emphasized that delegation names must be finalized in consultation with respective parties, not unilaterally by the Centre.
Pathan, a former cricketer-turned-MP, was reportedly approached directly by the Centre. However, following internal discussions, he has declined to participate. TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay also opted out due to health issues.
Operation Sindoor involves 51 leaders from various parties traveling to over 30 countries to communicate India's strong anti-terror stance.
Despite declining Pathan's inclusion, Mamata clarified that TMC supports the Centre's foreign policy efforts but insists on protocol and party autonomy in representation.
The issue has sparked debate on political protocol and party rights in national diplomacy.
