Actor and fitness icon Malaika Arora recently revealed her latest health obsession—clove tea—on Instagram, sparking curiosity around this age-old remedy. Cloves are known for their powerful health benefits, and infusing them into tea makes them easier to consume while retaining their medicinal properties. According to Ayurvedic expert Dr Anjana Kalia, clove tea is packed with antioxidants and has strong anti-inflammatory effects. It aids digestion, reduces acidity, boosts immunity, and promotes oral hygiene by fighting bacteria and freshening breath.
Dr Bhushan Bhole, a gastrointestinal and liver specialist, adds that cloves help stimulate enzyme secretion in the digestive system, making digestion smoother. He also points out that clove’s natural compounds are effective in relieving toothaches and reducing gum inflammation, offering temporary relief from oral discomfort.
For best results, Dr Anjana recommends consuming clove tea once or twice a day, ideally 30 minutes after meals, to help with bloating and aid digestion. The tea is simple to prepare: boil water, add cloves, and let them simmer for 10–15 minutes. Strain the liquid, and for enhanced flavor and benefits, consider adding honey or lemon.
While cloves have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, Malaika’s endorsement has given this humble spice a modern-day boost. As more people turn to natural, kitchen-based remedies for wellness, clove tea is gaining attention for being both accessible and beneficial. However, moderation is key, and those with specific health concerns should consult a professional before adding it to their routine.
