Investigators have successfully downloaded the Crash Protection Module’s memory data from the front black box of Air India Flight AI‑171 at the AAIB lab in Delhi on June 25, following its recovery in Ahmedabad .
This critical tech - comprising both the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) - was recovered under stringent security between June 13 and June 16, and flown to Delhi on June 24 for decoding . A joint AAIB–NTSB team led the extraction, aiming to reconstruct the sequence of technical and human actions leading to the crash .
The retrieval marks a major milestone in the probe of India’s deadliest aviation accident in a decade. Officials caution that analyzing CVR and FDR data is only the start: investigators will cross‑verify cockpit recordings, flight parameters, CCTV, engine health, and pilot readiness to determine root causes .
Preliminary reconstruction is expected within weeks, with a formal report due within a year under ICAO norms. The findings will be crucial for aviation safety improvements and to prevent future tragedies.
