Rekha Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a significant milestone as the fourth woman to hold this esteemed position. Her political journey began during her academic years, serving as the President of the Delhi University Students' Union from 1996 to 1997. She further solidified her political career by being elected as a councillor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 2007 and re-elected in 2012. In the recent 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Gupta secured a decisive victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes.

Her extensive experience within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) includes roles such as general secretary and member of the national executive. Gupta's appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to bring fresh leadership to Delhi, especially after a 27-year hiatus from governing the capital.
