Cambridge Dictionary has just added over 6,000 new entries - many inspired by internet culture and specifically trending Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and social media usage . Among the most notable are:
-
skibidi: A playful gibberish term born from the viral Skibidi Toilet YouTube series. It can mean “cool,” “bad,” or simply used for comedic effect with no fixed meaning.
-
tradwife: A blend of “traditional wife,” describing women who embrace homemaking and traditional gender roles—often celebrated and shared on social media .
-
delulu: Short for delusional, it's used humorously to describe someone believing in something false by choice. The term gained wider recognition when used by Australian PM Anthony Albanese in Parliament.
Other interesting additions include mouse jiggler (a remote-work tool to simulate activity), forever chemical (persistent pollutants), broligarchy, snackable content, and terms like work spouse and 15-minute city.
Cambridge Dictionary's editors - guided by data from its 2-billion-word corpus - only approve entries believed to have lasting relevance, not fleeting buzz
