India's agricultural sector is undergoing a high-tech transformation with the launch of the BHARATI initiative—short for "Bharat's Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement." Launched by APEDA, this program aims to bridge the gap between local innovation and global demand by providing startups with the tools and networking opportunities needed for international trade. By selecting top-performing agri-food and agri-tech startups, BHARATI will offer them a stage at major international exhibitions, connecting young entrepreneurs with overseas buyers, strategic partners, and venture capitalists.
The timing of the launch reflects a strong growth trajectory for the sector; APEDA-promoted exports have already reached $18.6 billion in the first eight months of the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a 7% growth despite global trade challenges. With the total export target set to cross $30 billion by the end of the current fiscal, the government is focusing heavily on value-added products and innovation. Unveiled during the Indusfood 2026 exhibition, BHARATI serves as a critical catalyst in India’s journey toward becoming a dominant player in the global agri-food value chain, ensuring that indigenous startups are at the forefront of this economic expansion.
