Five-storey structure collapses amid heavy rain in Shimla!

On the morning of June 30, torrential monsoon rains triggered havoc in Himachal Pradesh. In Bhattakufer, a five-floor residential building collapsed, fortunately after authorities evacuated it due to visible cracks. The collapse was captured on camera as the structure crumbled like a "house of cards". Locals attribute the damage to nearby four-lane highway construction, which reportedly destabilized the slope .

Simultaneously, a cloudburst hit Rampur's Sikaseri village, washing away several cowsheds, three cows, and two calves - though, thankfully, no human fatalities.

Heavy rain has also triggered landslides, blocking multiple stretches of the Shimla–Chandigarh highway and the Shimla–Kalka rail line. Boulders and trees obstructed traffic, forcing detours and causing congestion.

Weather officials have issued a 'red' alert for ten districts and an orange alert for areas like Shimla, Solan, and Kullu - warning of continued heavy rains and flash floods until at least July 5.

Despite zero casualties in the building collapse, the aftermath has exposed a critical need for safer construction practices and improved infrastructure resilience in Shimla’s monsoon-prone regions.
