From Kebabs to Shahi Tukra: A Must-Try Food Tour in Delhi!

Delhi, a city steeped in history, is equally rich in its culinary traditions. My recent exploration of its street food, guided by my friend Anirban Bora, was an unforgettable journey through the heart of Old Delhi, especially around Jama Masjid.

The bustling streets around the mosque are home to some of the best non-vegetarian delights, including the famed Qureshi Kebab Corner, where the sheek kebabs were irresistibly crunchy yet tender inside. A few steps away, Lalu Kebabee served up a revelation in beef boti kebab, tender and flavorful, almost melting in the mouth.

The iconic Al Jawahar, a legacy of Prime Minister Nehru's visits, offered rich gravies like Gurde Kaliji and Brain Curry. But the hidden gem, Pehlwan Biryani, with its achar-spiced biryani and hearty Nihari, stole the show. No visit was complete without a bite of Mawa Jalebi, crispy and made with pure ghee, followed by a decadent Shahi Tukra.

For breakfast, the famed Sabrati Nihariwala served up the best Nihari I've ever tasted, with the bone marrow blending seamlessly into the creamy gravy. Every corner of Old Delhi offers a unique taste of history, making the food experience an essential part of understanding the city's soul.
