Tanmay Srivastava, who played alongside Virat Kohli in India's victorious 2008 U-19 World Cup campaign, is set to take on a new role as an umpire in IPL 2025, which begins on March 22.
Tanmay played a crucial role in the U-19 final against South Africa, scoring a vital 46 off 74 balls—the highest score by an Indian in that match. India won by 12 runs via the DLS method. While Tanmay had a brief IPL career with Kings XI Punjab in 2008 and 2009, managing only eight runs in three innings, he was a consistent performer in domestic cricket, scoring 4,918 runs in 90 first-class matches.
After retiring from professional cricket five years ago, Tanmay transitioned to umpiring in the domestic circuit. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) confirmed his appointment, stating, "A true player never leaves the field- just changes the game."
Interestingly, Tanmay's U-19 teammate, Virat Kohli, will be leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders, making his umpiring debut even more special.
