HBO has officially announced the casting of the central trio for its upcoming "Harry Potter" television series, set to debut in 2026. Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton takes on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. These young actors were selected from tens of thousands of applicants aged 9 to 11 from the UK and Ireland, following an extensive casting process led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod.

The series aims to provide a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's seven-book saga, with each season dedicated to one book, offering a more detailed exploration of the Wizarding World. J.K. Rowling is serving as an executive producer for the series, despite ongoing controversies surrounding her views on transgender rights .

In addition to the lead trio, several key adult roles have been cast:

  • John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore

  • Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall

  • Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape

  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

  • Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell

  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Filming is scheduled to commence this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with the series expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
