Now, Karan Johar has come to the defense of Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor amid the backlash surrounding their Netflix debut film, Nadaaniyan. Addressing criticism at the trailer launch of Akaal, KJo quoted the song “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” from Amar Prem, implying that public scrutiny is inevitable and should be ignored.
Nadaaniyan has been widely panned for its lackluster execution, weak screenplay, and the unconvincing performances of its lead pair. Critics and audiences alike have slammed the film, questioning the casting of Ibrahim and Khushi, who failed to bring depth to their roles. Many felt the film lacked the emotional investment required to make an impact.
However, several industry figures have stepped in to defend the young actors. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta called the backlash “harsh” and held the makers accountable for not fully preparing the debutants. Sonu Sood urged kindness toward newcomers, while Vikram Bhatt praised Ibrahim’s potential.
Despite the criticism, Nadaaniyan features an ensemble cast, including Archana Puran Singh, Meezaan Jafri, Dia Mirza, and Suniel Shetty.
