Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Sri Lanka's highest civilian award, the "Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan," recognizing his role in strengthening India-Sri Lanka ties. On a three-day visit to Colombo, PM Modi expressed gratitude and stated that this honor belongs to all 1.4 billion Indians. He emphasized the deep-rooted historical, spiritual, and cultural connections between the two nations.
During his visit, India and Sri Lanka signed multiple agreements in areas like defense, infrastructure, and livelihood support. PM Modi highlighted India's commitment to its "Neighbourhood First" and "Vision MAHASAGAR" policies, underlining Sri Lanka's special place.
India also converted over $100 million in loans into grants to support Sri Lanka during its recent economic crisis. In a symbolic gesture, sacred Buddhist relics discovered in Gujarat are being sent to Sri Lanka for public viewing, further reinforcing the shared spiritual heritage between the two neighbors.
