A nine-year-old Dalit girl’s brutal rape and murder in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has ignited widespread protests and condemnation. On May 26, the minor was lured with a chocolate, raped, and assaulted, sustaining severe injuries, including slash wounds to her throat and chest. Her vocal cords were damaged, rendering her unable to speak.
The accused was arrested, but the victim’s family alleges negligence by the Turki police, who initially refused to register the case due to the accused’s influence. The girl was admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital, later transferred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), where she died on Sunday after delays in treatment.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) condemned the systemic failure, demanding a thorough investigation. Bihar Police promised a chargesheet within 15 days for a speedy trial. Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, protested, criticizing the Nitish Kumar government’s negligence.
