Despite recent reports of COVID-19 cases, health experts have confirmed that there is no significant surge in India.
According to Dr. Suranjit Chatterjee of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, only sporadic and mild cases are being reported, with no hospitalisations or ICU admissions, making the situation manageable. Experts believe COVID-19 is behaving like seasonal flu and does not pose a serious threat at present.
However, the Delhi government has issued a precautionary advisory to all hospitals, urging them to stay prepared. Hospitals have been asked to ensure the availability of beds, oxygen, medicines, and to keep essential equipment functional. Refresher training for medical staff has also been recommended.
Dr. Dhiren Gupta from Sir Gangaram Hospital noted a rise in flu-like symptoms and suggested more testing may begin soon. The advisory also mandates genome sequencing of positive cases to detect any new variants early.
