In the aftermath of the horrific Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, the opposition has demanded answers on why no security forces were present at Baisaran Valley when gunmen struck. The shocking incident, which unfolded as tourists enjoyed pony rides and picnics, has sparked a political storm and raised serious concerns about security lapses in Jammu and Kashmir.
At an all-party meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and top intelligence officials revealed a crucial detail: Baisaran Valley was scheduled to open to tourists in June, after a standard security sweep. However, hotel owners and tour operators reportedly opened the area early, on April 20, without notifying local police or authorities. This critical communication gap meant no troops were deployed to secure the valley, leaving hundreds of unsuspecting tourists vulnerable to the deadly attack.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assured leaders that steps are being taken to prevent such tragedies in the future. The BJP has demanded that the local administration provide clear, accountable answers for allowing tourists into Baisaran without proper security arrangements.
This incident has exposed glaring gaps in coordination between local businesses and law enforcement, raising urgent questions about safety protocols in one of Kashmir’s most popular destinations. As investigations continue, the nation watches for accountability and swift action to prevent another tragedy
