Paid to Do Nothing? Google’s Shocking Strategy Revealed!

In a surprising move, Google is paying some of its employees to do absolutely nothing- literally. This isn't a reward, but part of a strategic non-compete agreement, especially affecting those involved in sensitive AI projects. The goal? Prevent top talent from joining rival tech companies during a cooling-off period, sometimes lasting up to a year. These employees, often from Google DeepMind, continue receiving pay while being legally restricted from working elsewhere.

While it may sound like a dream scenario, it's frustrating for AI researchers in a fast-evolving field where staying active is crucial. Former DeepMind executive and current Microsoft AI VP, Nando de Freitas, criticized the practice, calling it an abuse of power and warning others against signing such contracts.

As the AI talent war heats up, Google's controversial tactic highlights the growing competition among tech giants to protect innovation at all costs.
