Rohit Sharma would've never quit Test cricket had BCCI not given him ultimatum!

Rohit Sharma's sudden retirement from Test cricket has sent shockwaves across Indian cricket. Announced just a month before India's England tour, the decision came after reported pressure from the BCCI. According to Dainik Jagran, the Ajit Agarkar led selection committee signaled that Rohit was not part of future Test plans, pushing him towards retirement.

Although Rohit's Test career was inconsistent, he delivered crucial performances as captain leading India to series wins over Australia and England at home. His standout knocks included two centuries against England during their 2023 tour. However, a sharp decline last year particularly dismal outings against New Zealand and Australia likely sealed his fate.

Sources suggest Rohit, who publicly expressed interest in touring England, would not have retired voluntarily without the BCCI's nudge. His exit closes an eventful chapter, marking a generational shift in India's red-ball setup as the team prepares for the next World Test Championship cycle.
