In a move aimed at reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s legacy of social justice and inclusivity, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that all government-run school and college hostels across the state will be renamed “Social Justice Hostels.” The announcement came during his address at a public event in Kanyakumari and reflects the Dravidian model of governance that emphasizes equity, dignity, and non-discrimination.
CM Stalin noted that the current terminology often associated these hostels with caste or community-based labels, unintentionally perpetuating social divisions. By renaming them, the government aims to foster a sense of unity and pride among students residing in these institutions, ensuring that no one feels marginalized or inferior due to their socio-economic background.
He also highlighted that the hostels would not only undergo a name change but also receive infrastructural and administrative improvements. The government plans to upgrade amenities, ensuring that students from underprivileged communities have access to quality accommodation and support while pursuing their education.
The initiative has been widely appreciated as a symbolic yet impactful step toward making public education systems more inclusive and sensitive to social disparities. The move aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader agenda of promoting social equity and creating an environment where all students feel empowered, respected, and equal.
