Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 18, 2025, aligning with the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
The film chronicles the life of Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, portrayed by Kumar, a prominent barrister and nationalist who courageously challenged the British Empire following the 1919 Amritsar massacre. Nair's legal battle against colonial authorities highlighted the atrocities committed during the massacre and brought international attention to the plight of Indians under British rule.
Joining Kumar are R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in significant roles. The narrative is inspired by the book "The Case That Shook the Empire" by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, offering a dramatized depiction of Nair’s relentless pursuit of justice.
Originally slated for a March 14 release, the film's debut was postponed to April 18 to coincide with Good Friday and the massacre's anniversary, adding historical resonance to its premiere. Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the movie aims to shed light on a critical episode in India's fight for independence.
While thematically distinct, the film's title connects it to the 2019 movie Kesari, also starring Kumar, which depicted the Battle of Saragarhi. Kesari Chapter 2 continues the exploration of India's colonial past, focusing on the legal battles that challenged imperial authority.
As anticipation builds, Kesari Chapter 2 promises to offer a compelling portrayal of courage and resistance, bringing to light the story of a man whose fight against oppression left an indelible mark on India's history.
