The Congress party on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, took a sharp dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking when he would break his silence after former U.S. President Donald Trump once again claimed he brokered peace between India and Pakistan.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh noted that this was the 21st time Trump has publicly stated that he used a “carrot-and-stick trade policy” to push both nations toward a ceasefire. Trump reportedly said the two countries "agreed to a ceasefire" due to his intervention and strategic use of trade negotiations.
“This is not the first or fifth time. It is the twenty-first time, and the Prime Minister continues to remain silent. What does he have to hide?” Ramesh posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The Congress party has long accused the Modi government of dodging key diplomatic disclosures and urged the PM to clarify India's official position on the matter. There has been no response from the Ministry of External Affairs or the Prime Minister’s Office so far.
