Turkey has introduced strict new rules requiring passengers to remain seated with seat belts fastened until the plane fully stops and the seatbelt sign is off.
Passengers cannot unbuckle, open overhead bins, or stand in the aisle during taxiing. Violators may face fines up to $70 (around ₹6,000). Cabin crew will enforce these rules to ensure safer and smoother disembarkation.
This move addresses the common problem of passengers rushing to exit planes prematurely, risking injuries and causing chaos. India faces a similar issue, with many passengers standing and opening luggage bins while the plane is still moving. Although India has laws for unruly behavior, there’s no specific rule for premature standing during taxiing.
Adopting Turkey’s approach could reduce injuries, ease boarding and disembarkation, and improve overall flight safety in India, especially as impatience among travelers continues to cause disruptions on domestic and international flights.
