Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the foundation stone of Tribhuvan University, India's first national cooperative university, in Gujarat's Anand district on Saturday. Named after cooperative movement pioneer Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, the founder of Amul, the university aims to train 20 lakh cooperative personnel over five years.
The Tribhuvan Sahkari University will offer programs from PhD to certificate levels, focusing on Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, dairy, and fisheries cooperatives. A dedicated research and development council will promote innovation in rural cooperative technologies.
The university plans to connect over 200 existing cooperative institutions nationwide within four years, creating a standardized network for cooperative education and training across India.
